Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn - Main

Rolls-Royce’s upcoming model will be known as Rolls-Royce Dawn, as announced by the luxury automaker. The car, which in essence is the soft-top or ‘drophead’ version of the two-door Wraith, was unveiled at the company’s world dealer conference in Los Angeles.

Chief executive officer Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said: “Dawn is a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine.”

“It will be the most social of super-luxury motor cars for those beautiful people who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s social hotspots.”

The announcement marks the revival of the nameplate, which was first introduced in 1949 and applied to 28 units of the original Silver Dawn model (pictured above) made between 1950 and 1954. It was the first Rolls-Royce to be offered with a factory-built body.

While details remain scarce, the new Dawn will take its styling inspiration from the Wraith. The vehicle is expected to be feature the same 624 hp/800 Nm 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.

The car will be launched during the first quarter of 2016.
