With a total of 6,714 recorded cases of road accidents last year, the Road Safety Department (JKJR) together with Continental Tyre PJ Malaysia and Shell Malaysia Trading has launched its inaugural Hari Raya Tyre Safety Check. The checks will be conducted at selected Shell stations for a month from 5th June to 5th July.
JKJR Policy and Innovation Division Director Tuan Haji Jasmi bin Yusoff reiterated that out of the total number of accidents, 80 percent of it are attributed to human error. He said that because of that fact, his department has initiated the campaign to create awareness on road safety during all types of festive seasons in Malaysia.
“We believe that by conducting the Hari Raya Tyre Safety Check Campaign will assists the government in promoting awareness of road safety and will reduce road accidents during the festive season. Correct tyre inflation and sufficient tread depth are essential to ensure safe motoring. Without these measures, emergency stopping distances can be much longer which means more accidents at higher impact speeds. So clearly, correct tyre inflation, sufficient tread depth as well as choosing quality tyres such as Continental’s can make the differences between life and death.” said Continental Tyre PJ Malaysia Vice President of Marketing & Sales PLT & TT Malaysia Cameron Wilson.
The campaign is said to conduct tyre safety checks and tyre care demonstration for all types of vehicles at 21 Shell stations nationwide, starting from selected stations in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
