2016 Honda Accord Facelift 01

Honda has taken the covers off the 2016 Honda Accord at its Silicon Valley tech hub in California. Apart from restyled facade, which we find refreshing, the facelifted sedan is set to feature a host of new technology including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it the most high-tech Accord ever.

Both the infotainment systems, which support seamless smartphone integration among other things, can be accessed via a new seven-inch touch display that allows users to swipe, tap and pinch to control the vehicle’s audio system, display settings and other features.

The unit is paired with steering wheel-mounted controls and a 7.7-inch high-res screen that displays a multitude of functions including LaneWatch and rear view camera, audio settings, turn-by-turn navigation, time and trip information, incoming calls, text messages, and parking sensor alerts.

Also new in the Accord is Honda Sensing, a safety package that incorporates Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control. These features are joined by Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, Expanded View Driver’s Mirror as well as auto high-beam headlights.

In terms of design, the Accord’s newfound sharp creasing on the front end is matched with a new aluminium hood while the rear section is made tidier thanks to sharper taillights and a similarly aggressive rear bumper. Depending on the variant, the Accord is equipped with 19-inch wheels, LED lights all around and a rear deck spoiler.

Set to be launched in August, the US-market Accord will continue to be offered with 2.4-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder and 3.5-litre VTEC V6 engines with either CVT, six-speed manual or six-speed auto transmissions. Details on the Accord Hybrid will be divulged at a later date.
