PROTON Holdings Bhd celebrates its 30th birthday today from when the first Saga model rolled out to the masses in 1985. In its bid to continuously promote the awareness on vehicle safety to its customers, PROTON starts its modest celebration with its customers by providing free 30 points safety inspection at all of its authorised service outlets nationwide.
The programme will be ongoing until 31 October 2015 in all PROTON authorised service centres nationwide. The 30 points inspection include checks on fluid level, battery, wiper blades, radiator cap, pedal operation, suspension system, steering linkage and ball joint system, cooling system, fuel and brake system as well as tyre pressure (including spare tyres). Other than the free 30 points inspection, customers will also be given free consultation on engine and car maintenance, educate on how to differentiate genuine parts against imitation parts as well as enjoy discounts on parts and other promotions.
As a kick-start to the free safety inspection, Dato’ Abdul Harith Abdullah, CEO of PROTON was with the media at the launch ceremony which was done at a Petronas station in Damansara-NKVE. “We would like to thank our fellow Malaysians for the support they have given to us for the last 30 years. Therefore, this is a small token to our customers to get closer to them instead of just waiting for them to send their cars to our service centres. Our teams will be stationed at 5 different areas consisting of Petronas stations and an R&R area to cater to the needs of customers who are already on the way to their Kampung and holiday destinations,” said Dato’ Harith.
“In previous years, PROTON has been offering between 18 to 20 points free inspections to our customers. However, in conjunction with the 30th anniversary celebration this year, we have increased the inspection to 30 points to give a more in-depth check on customers’ cars. They include checks to the ABS module, alternator, transmission, power steering, fuel main pipe/pressure hose, radiator fan, starter, lamps, fusible link and accessories. This is partly our way of saying thank you to our customers,” Dato’ Harith added.
As part of the 30th Anniversary, PROTON is also offering various discounts on selected parts such as absorber, brake, clutch and timing belt.
Elaborating further, he said that since PROTON was established, PROTON’s role has gone beyond designing and building vehicles. The Company provides value across the business value chain and drive the landscape of Malaysia’s automotive industry.
“PROTON’s 30 years journey is not just about making cars. It involved facilitating the development of an entire eco-system in the domestic automotive industry. This extends to the acquisition of technology; continued investments in research and development; training and retraining to develop highly-skilled and knowledgeable talent force; creating technically-superior supporting industries; and most importantly, promoting greater awareness and higher benchmark for vehicle safety to all consumers. As such, our responsibility for the next 30 years will remain, that is to produce globally competitive, good, safe & affordable cars for Malaysians,” Dato’ Harith added further.
Apart from that, he said as a car maker, PROTON also has a social responsibility to educate and promote safety awareness to users, especially in supporting the government’s call to reduce road accidents during the festive seasons and school holidays.
“The best way would be to reach out to our customers and help them be conscious on the condition of their cars as this can greatly reduce the number of accidents,” said Dato’ Harith.
