Suzuki Assemblers Malaysia continues to expand its model lineup in the country with the launch of the all-new Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F. The pair is essentially a street-orientated, stripped down version of the supersport GSX-R1000.
The difference between the GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F is that the former is a naked model while the latter comes with fairings. Both bikes feature a 999 cc liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine derived from the GSX-R1000 K5 with 146 hp at 10,000 rpm and 108 Nm of torque at 9,500 rpm. With a bore and stroke of 73.4 mm x 59 mm and optimised cam, the engine is promised to return ample power through the low and mid-range.
The output is managed by a three-mode traction control system that checks the speed of the wheels, throttle position, crank position sensor and the gear position sensor 250 times a second. The modes differ in terms of sensitivity, with Mode 1 having the least sensitive traction control for spirited riding and Mode 3 with the highest sensitive control most suitable for wet or cold conditions.
The GSX-S series is built around a new, compact mainframe matched with a 43 mm KYB inverted front forks and a coil spring rear suspension with aluminium-alloy swingarm that comes straight from the GSX-R1000.
Braking power comes from 310 mm floating-mount disc with 32 mm four-piston calipers from Brembo. It is also equipped ABS, which monitors the wheel speeds 50 times per wheel rotation.
Both the GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F feature a lightweight LCD instrument cluster with ample of readings including speedometer, odomoter, gear position, temperatures, average fuel consumption as well as traction control, and LED indicators.
Available in blue, red and grey, the Suzuki GSX-S series is priced from RM68,400 for the GSX-S1000 and RM74,400 for the GSX-S1000F (basic sales price excluding GST).
