We’ve seen the latest generation A4, now let’s take a look at the performance version of it – the new S4. Presented in Frankfurt in both sedan and Avant guises, the saloon brings more power and torque, with better fuel economy thanks to a new turbocharged engine.

Gone are days of supercharging as the 3.0-litre TFSI V6 is now boosted with a turbocharger resulting in a total output of 354 hp and 500 Nm of torque, which is a significant growth over the current model. In terms of performance, 0 t0 100 km/h sprint is completed in 4.7 seconds while top speed is rated at 250 km/h.

A new eight-speed tiptronic sends the power to the wheels via the trademark quattro all-wheel-drive system, which funnels 60 percent of engine torque to the rear axle and 40 percent to the front during normal driving. The system can distribute up to 70 percent to the front axle or up to 85 percent to the rear depending on driving conditions.

The S4 rides on newly developed five-link suspension matched with electromechanical power steering, which can be upgraded to a variable speed-dependent dynamic type. Audi Drive Select comes as standard.

Styling, as you can see, is understated. Following Audi’s current design language, the S4 features a striking ‘singleframe’ grille, restyled front bumper with bigger intakes, and 18-inch wheels wrapped in 245/40 tyres. The rear section is typical S4, with a black honeycomb grille, diffuser, and quad muffler tips. Like the TT and R8, the S4 now comes with the new Audi Virtual Cockpit on a 12.3-inch screen.
