Lamborghini Huracan Spyder 01

This week’s Frankfurt Motor Show will see the unveiling of the new Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, which is the brand’s third open-top model after the Aventador Roadster and Aventador SV Roadster.

As you can already guess, the Huracan Spyder shares most of the design cues with its hard-top sibling but the roof has been replaced with an electrohydraulic soft top that can be opened or closed in just 17 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h. That’s not all – compared to the Gallardo Spyder, the new supercar from Sant’Agata has a 40 percent stiffer chassis and 50 percent more downforce.

The Huracan Spyder is powered by the same 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine that delivers 610 hp at 8,250 rpm and 560 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm through a seven-speed DCT. Understandably, with the increase in weight, the century sprint time increases from 3.2 to 3.4 seconds, while top speed drops from 325 to 323 km/h.

Although many aspects of the Huracan Spyder are identical to its coupe counterpart, the new car features a handful of technology that will be embedded in the 2016 model year such as cylinder on demand, stop start button as well as a new electronic all-wheel-drive system.
