Teased with just a single photo of its front end a couple of days back citing its pioneering crossover expertise and inspiration from its 240Z dessert racers, Nissan has unveiled its Gripz Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Although it was mentioned that the Gripz Concept pays homage to its iconic Safari Rally-winning Nissan 240Z from the 1970s, it is, according to Nissan, a design statement rather than a replacement for an existing model.

It does, however, feature Nissan’s new ‘emotional geometry’ design language with V-motion grille, boomerang lamps front and rear, a floating roof and a kicked-up C pillar. It also has four doors with deep dihedral front doors that swing out and up and a pair of rear-hinged half-doors at the back.

The interior showcases a mix of matt-grey and the deep red-orange colours with exposed tubes, moulded bucket seats and layered features. It also has a ‘Gliding Wing’ instrument panel and three-spoke steering wheel that supposedly replicates its wheels.

Nissan , however, did not reveal any details on its powertrain saying that it uses an EV technology based Series hybrid system ‘Pure Drive e-Power’ with a petrol engine used to power the same electric motor found in the Nissan LEAF.
