Bigger and more powerful – that’s what you need to know about the new Peugeot 2008 DKR16, which is an upgraded version of the 2008 DKR Dakar racer that made its debut in January this year.

Set to be fielded later in the year, the 2008 DKR16 is longer, wider as well as lower than the car it replaces. The front and rear overhangs have been shortened so that it can tackle sand dunes and river beds better. Aerodynamics have also been revised, with the addition of new bonnet and roof-mounted intakes, and a better-flowing air scoop.

Of course, the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine hasn’t been left untouched. It’s been reworked extensively, increasing the output from 340 to 350 hp, while torque remains the same at 800 Nm. The car is also equipped with a new suspension system, which is linked to one-piece magnesium wheels and Michelin tyres.
