2016 Mini Convertible 01

The third-generation Mini Convertible has made its debut at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, following its global release about a week ago.

Like its hardtop siblings, the latest Convertible is bigger than its predecessor – 44 mm wider, 98 mm longer and 1 mm taller, to be exact. Its wheelbase has also grown by a full 28 mm, leading to a bigger and more spacious cabin.

Everything else is about the same its hardtop counterparts, bar the automatic-folding soft top, which can be raised or lowered in just 18 seconds at speeds up to 30 km/h. The unit also features a sliding roof function.

On the powertrain front, the base Cooper model gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 134 hp and 220 Nm of torque under its belt, with a choice of either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The Cooper S, on the other hand, is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine that churns out 187 hp and 280 Nm of torque.
