A few months ago, Opel confirmed that a race car based on the new Astra was imminent. Today, we have our first look at the new Astra TCR, which will compete in the forthcoming Touring Racing Car Series.
Before you get all excited, the Astra TCR is a track-only car that will be offered to customer teams competing in the series. Thanks to a collaboration with Kissling Motorsport, the race car is endowed with a gorgeous wide bodykit complete with a massive front splitter and rear wing.
With plenty of items deleted, including its electronic stability control, electronic brake force distribution, traction control and other electronic systems, the Astra TCR tips the scale at just 1,200 kg. That will go well with its 2.0-litre turbo engine, which pumps out 325 hp and 420 Nm of torque to the front wheel via a six-speed sequential transmission.
ABS isn’t included either, so the Astra TCR will have to do with it 378 mm front disc brakes with six-piston calipers and 265 mm disc brakes with two-piston calipers at the rear. It also has a 100-litre safety fuel tank as part of the 2017 regulations.
