Bermaz Motor ends the year 2015 on a high note today with the launch of the all-new Mazda CX-3. The compact crossover is the smallest model in Mazda’s CX family and also the latest member of the company’s new generation lineup.

While based on the same platform, the CX-3 is actually shorter but wider and taller than the Mazda2 sedan, measuring in at 4,275 mm long, 1,765 mm wide, and 1,535 mm tall. Both have the same wheelbase at 2,570 mm but of course the crossover is heavier than the 2 with a kerb weight of 1,211 kg.

Design-wise, the CX-3 follows in the footsteps of the rest of the new models, adopting the iconic Kodo design language. The car comes equipped with automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, sunroof, front and rear fog lamps, wing mirror indicator as well as 18-inch alloy wheels.

The cabin layout is pretty much similar to that of the Mazda2 – simple and uncluttered centre console with a straightforward design. The CX-3 gets leather/suede upholstery with red stitching and a seven-inch touch display for the MZD Connect infotainment system. There’s also the familiar-looking Active Driving Display instrument panel, head-up display and multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters. At the back, the CX-3 offers 350-litres of boot space.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Skyactiv-G engine packing an output of 154 hp at 6,000 rpm and 204 Nm of torque at 2,800 rpm. The unit is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, which drives the front wheels. To ensure optimum fuel consumption, the engine is equipped with i-Stop, which shuts the engine down when the car comes to a complete stop.

The Skyactiv body construction is matched with McPherson struts on the front and torsion beam suspension at the rear. Braking power comes from front ventilated discs and rear solid discs. As for safety, the CX-3 boasts six airbags (front, front seat side and curtain), ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control, and Traction Control System, Hill-Start Assist, as well as Adaptive Front-Lighting System.

The CX-3 will be available as CBU model with five colour choices – Soul Red Metallic, Crystal White Pearl, Jet Black, Meteor Grey and Deep Crystal Blue. It is priced from RM131,218 (OTR without insurance).
