MINI JCW Convertible 04

MINI has officially taken the covers off the new John Cooper Works Convertible, about a year after the introduction of the hardtop version at last year’s Detroit Auto Show. Packed with all the JCW goodness combined with pleasure of open-air driving, the convertible is set to make its public debut at the upcoming NY Motor Show.

Based on the standard convertible, the new JCW model comes standard with an aerodynamic kit, full LED headlamps and 17-inch alloy wheels, which can be swapped with the optional 18s. The fully automatic soft top opens and closes in 18 seconds at speeds up to 29 km/h. Additionally, the front section of the soft top can be retracted for that targa feel.

The cockpit is dressed in black and red colour scheme and highlights a 6.5-inch display with infotainment system as well as a sea of JCW-specific features such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear lever and stainless steel pedals.

Like the hardtop version, the JCW Convertible sports a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine packing 228 hp at 5,200 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at just 1,250 rpm. Fitted with either a six-speed manual or six-speed Steptronic, the car is capable of sprinting from 0 to 97 km/h in less than 6.5 seconds. Top speed for the JCW Convertible is 241 km/h for the manual and 240 km/h for the auto.

In its standard form, the open-top hatchback rolls on a sports suspension with a single-joint spring strut axle at front and a multilink rear axle. Those craving for a more engaging drive may opt for the Dynamic Damper Control, which offers a selection of Sport and Green modes. Stopping power, meanwhile, comes from Brembo sport brakes.
