Volkswagen has introduced the new Phideon, a high-end sedan developed specifically for the Chinese market. It will debut in Geneva, and be positioned above the Passat and Magotan, another China-only sedan.

What the moguls in the country will get is a premium sedan measuring 5.05 meters long, 1.87 meters wide and 1.48 meters high, with a wheelbase of more than three metres or 118 inches, to be exact. The Phideon is characterised by LED headlights, a front grille with four chrome bars as well as LED tail lights in the back. It has a lounge-like cabin, with adjustable seats, which also feature massage, heat and ventilation functions.

Developed in Germany, the Phideon comes in 4MOTION all-wheel-drive from with a 3.0-litre TSI V6 engine, which has 300 PS and 440 Nm of torque. The automaker says a 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder with front-wheel drive, and a plug-in hybrid variant will be introduced in the future.

The Phideon is based on the automaker’s widely-used Modular Longitudinal Matrix (MLB) platform. It rides on an air suspension system with five selectable driving modes. Another new feature is the electric soft-closing system for the doors, called “Soft Close”.

On the assistance systems front, the Phideon features adaptive cruise control, Front Assist, Park Assist, Lane Assist, Side Assist, proactive occupant protection system, Light Assist, and Area View. The car’s infotainment system supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink.
