BMW Group Malaysia has officially announced the X1 and X4 as the ninth and tenth model to join its portfolio of vehicles assembled locally. Production is set to begin in the second half of this year at the company’s facility in Kulim, Kedah, where over 20 variants of BMW and MINI vehicles are assembled.
“The new locally-assembled X1 and X4 are a further testament to our longstanding investment and commitment to Malaysia as a strategic hub for the BMW Group in the South East Asian region,” said Han Sang Yun, managing director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia.
Pricing is yet to be finalised, but we’re expecting significant reductions for both of the CKD models. To recap, the fully-imported X1 sDrive20i is priced at RM279,800, while the X4 goes for RM435,800 for the xDrive28i and RM465,800 for the xDrive28i M Sport. A diesel version of the X1 is also expected to join the lineup, the automaker has confirmed.
BMW Group Malaysia also announced that the 3 Series Gran Turismo, X3 and 5 Series have received the government’s customised EEV status incentives, which will see price reductions of up to RM39,000. This follows the revised pricing strategy announced for the 1 Series and 3 Series in February. You can refer to the list below for before and after EEV prices.
Apart from the EEV status incentives, the 5 Series (520i, 520d and 528i) now comes with the M Sport Package with Comfort Access, front sport seats and BMW ConnectedDrive as standard. The 528i M Sport specifically gets a glass roof, rear spoiler as well as 19-inch double-spoke wheels.
Additionally, BMW Group Malaysia revealed that in 2018, Malaysia would become the export hub for the 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series variants to Vietnam and the Philippines.
