Subaru WRX STI Isle of Man TT

Subaru has announced that it is set for another Isle of Man TT record with Mark Higgins behind the wheel. What the British rally champion will drive is a 2016 WRX STI that was jointly developed by the Japanese automaker, Subaru Tecnica International (STI) and Prodrive.

“This is one of the amazing road courses in the world and the Isle of Man TT is one of the most exciting races of the year,” said Dominick Infante, National Manager of Product Communications for Subaru America. “We have previously run the TT course in near-stock WRX STIs, but this year we set out to design the ultimate WRX STI for this circuit.”

While no technical information have been divulged, the automaker says the WRX STI is specifically tuned for the arduous run on the 60-km course. Design and build of the car are courtesy of Prodrive while technical assistance is provided by STI. Both have won three World Rally Championship Manufacturer titles together, so expect a really capable car as the outcome.

Higgins’s first Isle of Man TT attempt came in 2011 with an average lap speed of 185.65 km/h. Three years later, he broke his own record with a speed of 189.11 km/h and a time of 19 minutes 15 seconds. You can watch the insane run in the video above.
