Naza Premira, the official distributor of Vespa in Malaysia, has officially unveiled the latest member to join the lineup – the new Vespa S125. The model pays homage to legendary Vespas from the 70s including the 50 Special and the Primavera.
Similar to the Sprint that was launched last year, the S125 features a square headlight with a chrome surround, along with rearview mirrors and a ‘tie’ on the front that are also finished in chrome. These are matched with black-painted horn guard and five-spoke wheels in the same hue.
On top of that, the S125 comes with new mudguards, new saddle profile, red shock absorbers as well as a new instrument panel updated graphics. The scooter also has a new guard located on the footboard.
Powering the S125 is a 124 cc, four-stroke, three-valve engine that promises better performance, low fuel consumption and less emissions thanks to a slew of upgraded components, such as new crankshaft, as well as new pivoted cam axle and roller rockers.
Packing 11.6 hp at 8,250 rpm and 10.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm, the engine also features new spark plug position, new ECU and revised cooling system. The drive is channeled to the wheel through a twist-and-go continuously variable transmission (CVT) with torque server.
Vespa claims that these upgrades result in improvement of performance with the power improved by 7.1% and torque by 10.3%, as opposed to its 2V predecessor. Acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h drops by 2% while top speed is increased by 2.2%. Despite the improvement in performance, fuel economy drops from 50 km per litre to 55 km per litre.
The Vespa S125 is priced at RM10,988 (nett selling price without GST and insurance). The price mentioned includes a two-year manufacturer warranty and a one year AAM Bike Assists membership. It is available in five colours: Toarnima (Orange), Rosso Dragon (Red), Nero Vulcano (Black), Monte Bianco (White) and Grigio Titanio (Matte Grey). However, first 70 units will come with a limited edition decal.
