The long awaited fourth generation Proton Perdana was finally unveiled this morning, marking the national carmaker’s re-entry into the D-segment market, with the 2.0 and 2.4 variants.
Based on the Honda Accord platform and power train, the 2.0 variant is powered by a four-cylinder 16-valve SOHC engine that generates 15hp and 189Nm of torque while the 2.4 variant comes with a four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC engine producing 178hp and 222Nm torque.
Proton has made significant aesthetic and aerodynamic enhancements to the new Perdana to suit current market requirements, one of the most significant being the shape of the silhouette, with a sloping rear design that gives a sporty, aerodynamic look to the car and lends to its overall elegance.
It is equipped with a suite of driver’s aids for safety, as well as an independent double-wishbone front suspension for improved grip and better stability when braking, and active and passive restraints that ensure optimal protection for all occupants of the vehicle.
The Perdana also has an advanced GPS navigation system and Proton infotainment system that allows the owner to optimise and customise the driving environment to ensure a comfortable ride.
The interior is spacious and comfortable, with luxurious leather seats that enhance the Perdana’s premium image.
“Coming into a new era after 30 years, we recently made a pledge to our customers to offer cars with better value, enjoyable drive and safety.
“From the smooth handling to the spacious interior to distinctive features, the new Perdana personifies the new Proton,” said Proton CEO Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali.
Proton had stopped the production of the Perdana in 2010, and the anticipation from the public for Proton to produce a new Perdana pushed the company to produce a new level of affordable premium comfort, according to Fuaad.
He believes the new Perdana signifies a new Proton, and symbolises a new aspiration for Proton to give the best to its customers.
The 2.0 variant is priced at RM113,888 while the 2.4 comes with a price tag of RM138,888.
Both variants of the Perdana come in six colours – Sterling Silver, Graphite Grey, Cotton White, Midnight Black and Citrine Gold, as well as a brand new colour, Ruby Red.
