Boon Siew Honda today launched the first energy efficient vehicle (EEV)-certified scooter in Malaysia, the Honda BeAT, aimed at youths, priced at RM5,565 including GST.
It is powered by a 108cc four-stroke OHC air-cooled engine which generates 9hp at 7,500rpm and 9Nm peak torque at 6,000rpm.
The company said the scooter is positioned as an active lifestyle device, designed to support and uplift the fast paced life of youths.
The BeAT features the Combi Brake System (CBS) which allows shorter braking distance, Smart Lock System which keeps brakes locked for safe starting or parking, and a Side Stand Switch which stops the engine automatically once engaged.
Boon Siew Honda is the first two wheeler manufacturer in the country to receive EEV status, as part of its support of the government’s target for Malaysia to become the regional hub for EEVs through adaptation of high technology.
“It is our way of making sure the development goes hand-in-hand with efforts to preserve the environment.
“It is important for us that the carbon footprint is minimised in line with the National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2014 by the Malaysian government,” said Boon Siew Honda managing director Nobuhide Nagata.
The company expects 12,500 units of the BeAT to be sold a year.
It will be introducing new products in its lineup in the near future, though Nagata would not specify any details on the products the company has in the pipeline.
Customers who are students will also receive a free RM100 petrol card which can be used for three months, as long as they are able to prove their student status upon registration.
Nagata said Boon Siew Honda is confident it will return to its top position in the country by 2018.
