Honda Malaysia in a statement today has said it would be increasing stock availability for Takata passenger front airbag inflators to 55% by the end of this month, and gradually increasing to 70% by the end of December, a month ahead of its previously announced timeframe.

Meanwhile, stock availability for the driver airbag inflators is at 100%.

As of November 23, Honda Malaysia has replaced more than 62,300 out of the approximate 125,000 affected Takata passenger front airbag inflators, translating to a completion ratio of about 50% and over 175,000 out of the approximate 264,000 affected Takata driver front airbag inflators, translating to a completion ratio of 66%.

Honda Malaysia urges customers to replace their affected Takata front airbag inflators as they may deploy with excessive internal pressure when activated and the inflator casing could rupture, causing injury or fatality to the driver and passenger.

Affected customers can make an appointment at any of the Honda Service Central Hubs or Authorized Honda dealers to avoid any setback for these replacements to be carried out systematically.

Besides that, the company is also extending the current 11 Mobile Hubs at shopping malls to a total of 18 shopping malls until December 25.

The increase of Mobile Hubs in more shopping malls is in addition to the operations of the Honda Service Central Hubs which have been extended until December 31, and the replacement activities are also available during Honda’s on-ground activities such as Honda Family Road Trip and Honda Mobile Road Shows.

“Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. continues alerting and informing customers of the importance of replacing the affected vehicle’s airbag inflators, via increased frequency of postings on social media and SMS blast.

“Owners of Honda vehicles affected by the airbag inflator product recall are advised to immediately get their vehicles checked and parts replaced at any authorized Honda dealers, Service Central Hubs or Mobile Hubs as soon as possible,” said Honda Malaysia in its statement.
