Total vehicle sales in October have gone down from 55,788 units in the same month of last year to 47,879 units, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

Sales of passenger vehicles in October eased to 42,522 units from 49,097 units year-on-year, while commercial vehicle sales dropped to 5,357 units from 6,691 units.

It said this is because consumers were adopting a wait-and-see attitude ahead of the 2017 Budget announcement.

Meanwhile, the total industry volume (TIV) from January to October was 13.9% lower compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The association also expects sales volume in November to be slightly better than October, on the back of ongoing aggressive promotional campaigns by car companies.
