The first impression you get when you look at a car is what begins to shape your opinion, and when we first set eyes on the Volkswagen Passat we couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel.

On the outside, the Passat has a sleek, executive look, boasting its premium qualities through its dynamic silhouette, the lines on its side enhancing its style.

When we got inside, we were immediately impressed by the comfort of the seats, while the classy interior makes it look as premium on the inside as it does on the outside.

Its leather steering wheel felt soft and luxurious under our hands, and it added to the comfort of driving the vehicle as well as to the premium feel the Passat exudes.

The purr of the engine made us excited to start driving it, and once we stepped on the accelerator we weren’t disappointed.

The Passat’s acceleration is excellent, and we could feel the power as soon as we stepped on it, with little to no lag making it easy to manoeuvre and nip around.

We tried it on different types of roads, and we felt the steering wheel wasn’t too hard or too soft, easing manoeuvrability; the good handling combined with the instant acceleration helped us overtake easily and confidently, as well as take corners with ease with hardly any body roll felt.

The ride was also smooth, and we barely felt the bumps even on the trunk roads while the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels were at a minimal level.

The comfort of its leather seats meant that even over a distance we didn’t feel too tired or uncomfortable, and we felt no aches even after a whole day of driving.

We tried both the Comfortline 1.8L TSI as well as the Highline 2.0L TSI, and we felt in terms of power the Highline was more satisfying, but even the Comfortline was impressive enough.

The information displayed on the instrument cluster in the top spec Highline variant can be customised according to the driver’s preference, so it won’t be cluttered with information that the driver does not want or need, while the navigation display on the dashboard makes it convenient to view.

Our first impression of the Passat is that it not only looks good, turning more than a few heads as we drove by, but it also offers a smooth, luxurious ride that gives you the satisfaction of a good drive.
