BMW Group Malaysia has launched the first hybrid model for the 7 Series in Malaysia, the locally-assembled 740Le xDrive, priced at RM598,800 OTR without insurance, inclusive of GST, knocked down from the retail price of RM853,800 after being granted government hybrid incentive of RM255,000.

It’s powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder in-line engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo which generates 258hp and peak torque of 400Nm, mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, while in pure electric driving mode, the car achieves 113hp and 250Nm maximum torque, and has a range of 41km.

Together, the combustion engine and electric drive system produces 326hp and combined peak torque of 500Nm, allowing the car to reach 100km/h from a standstill in 5.3 seconds before getting to a top speed of 250km/h.

The eDrive button located on the centre console allows the driver to dictate the configuration of the plug-in hybrid drive system.

In the AUTO eDrive mode, the combustion engine and electric motor only activates the combustion engine at the speed of around 80 km/h or under heavy throttle conditions.

Pure-electric driving is engaged in the MAX eDrive mode where the car is powered exclusively by the electric motor, and Battery Control allows the driver to manually engage the use of the high-voltage battery.

Model-specific features include the eDrive badges adorning the C-pillars and the BMW i logos on the front side panels of the limousine.

The 740Le xDrive has the same wheelbase as its predecessor and comes with 19-inch double-spoke light alloy wheels.

The model introduces Adaptive mode and BMW’s xDrive technology for the first time in a sedan, while the Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport driving modes are further refined.

Interior aesthetics include the Ambient Light Design which consists of Welcome Light Carpet for the area in front of the front doors, welcoming the driver and passengers to the car and Ambient highlight inside car, offering six different colour variants, as well as panoramic Sky Lounge glass roof with LED-based lighting installation.

Owners can monitor charge levels of the high voltage battery, locations of charging stations and distance covered on electric power along with amount of petrol saved using the BMW Connected app.

Besides that, drivers can also check the fill level of the fuel tank, the current vehicle range and electric charge status, the status of the central locking system, windows and glass roof, service prompts and the time of day, as well as activate the air conditioning and ventilation system within the vehicle using the BMW Display Key via its integrated Touch Display.

The chassis of the 740Le xDrive includes two-axle air suspension with automatic self-levelling and Dynamic Damper Control.

Safety-wise, the car is equipped with front and side airbags, head/curtain airbags for the front and rear seats, a knee airbag for the driver, Isofix child seat mountings in the rear, and the Active Protection System among others.

Driver assistance systems include the latest BMW head-up display, Parking Assistant as well as Driving Assistant Plus and Surround View systems.

With a gross energy capacity of 9.2kWh, its high-voltage lithium-ion battery can be recharged from any domestic power socket.

Full charge through the BMW i Wallbox Connect can be achieved in under five hours and the charging process managed via either the BMW Remote app on a smartphone or the graphic in the car’s instrument cluster.

Users can also charge the vehicle at any of GreenTech Malaysia’s 181 ChargEV stations nationwide through the BMW ChargeNow mobility service as part of the BMW 360° Electric program.

The 740Le xDrive is available in Black Sapphire, Imperial Blue, Mineral White, and Sophisto Grey while inside, the upholstery is lined with exclusive Nappa leather and the interior trim finished in Poplar Grain Grey fine-wood.
