The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be instructed to review the enforcement of private vehicle load limits to ensure that the number of victims in accidents are controlled, according to a report by Bernama.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said currently the limit on the number of passengers in private vehicles is not being enforced.

“The time has come for the RTD to re-look at this in order to ensure the safety of passengers,” he said.

He added that the ministry had also instructed the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) to carry out an investigation into the cause of the crash.

In the incident at about 2.20pm yesterday, eight people were killed in a four-vehicle accident at KM25 Jalan Bahau-Keratong, Jempol.
