Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has unveiled the sixth generation Hyundai Elantra today in anticipation of good market response for the upgraded model after a teaser preview last month.

It’s available in three variants, the 2.0 MPI Executive, 2.0 MPI Dynamic and Elantra Sport, priced at RM116,388, RM120,588 and RM131,488 respectively, OTR without insurance, and comes with 50,000km of free service with a three-year validity.

There are two powertrain options – Nu 2.0L MPI and Gamma 1.6L Turbo GDI.

The Elantra 2.0L MPI Executive and 2.0L MPI Dynamic are both powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine which delivers 150hp at 6,200rpm and 192Nm of torque at 4,000rpm, paired with Hyundai’s six-speed automatic transmission, while the Elantra Sport is powered by a Gamma 1.6 Turbo GDI (T-GDI) four-cylinder engine that generates 201hp at 6,000rpm and 265Nm of torque at 1,500-4,500rpm, mated to an ECOSHIFT seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Elantra’s exterior has been completely redesigned, with a prominent hexagonal front grille framed by striking headlights, showing off an edgier front end.

It features front bumper air vents and LED daytime running lights as well as LED taillights, while the Elantra Sport comes with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights.

On the inside, its new cockpit is ergonomically designed with multimedia and control buttons placed strategically for the driver and a driver-centric horizontal crash pad layout with T-shaped centre fascia and a subtle tilt towards driver’s seat.

It also boasts the biggest cargo space in its class with a loading capacity of 407 litres.

Safety-wise, it comes with six airbags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, traction control, ABS, rear-view camera, parking guidance system, tyre pressure monitoring alert system and hill-start assist control as standard, as well as Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist for the Elantra Sport.

Besides that, the Elantra also comes with convenient features such as hands-free smart trunk, auto cruise control and three different drive modes – Eco, Normal and Sport – which allow the driver to adapt the throttle, transmission and steering to their driving needs.

Other upgrades include a multimedia system equipped with Android Auto and Apple Car Play while the Elantra Sport gets more intelligent features such as an auto defogging system, dual zone auto climate control and rain-sensing wipers.

HSDM offers a 5-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty on all its new passenger vehicles, along with a 24-hour road assist service available to new and existing Hyundai vehicles.
