The recently launched Honda CR-V has garnered 1,400 bookings in one week since it launched on July 12, which is equivalent to two months’ sales target; Honda Malaysia set a monthly sales target of 700 units.
The 1.5L Turbocharged Premium 2WD proved most popular, accounting for 40% of the bookings, followed by the 1.5L Turbocharged 2WD at 31%, the 2.0L i-VTEC (2WD) at 20% and 1.5L Turbocharged 4WD at 9%.
In total, bookings for the turbocharged variants stand at the anticipated 80% while the non-turbocharged variant is at 20%.
Honda Malaysia said this ratio shows Malaysians are more receptive towards turbocharged engines, in line with the trend seen for the Civic, as well as the maturing of the Malaysian market that now value advanced technology more.
Lunar Silver Metallic was the favourite colour, comprising 30% of bookings, followed by the new White Orchid Pearl which accounted for 27%.
The CR-V was launched simultaneously in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching, Sarawak as an opportunity for Honda Malaysia to widen its market share in East Malaysia.
The 1.5L Turbocharged Premium 2WD variant is well received by East Malaysians, with sales of this variant standing at 38%, which Honda Malaysia attributes to improvements of the powertrain, 4WD system and additional safety features.
The launch in Kuching marked the second time that Honda Malaysia conducted launch events in East Malaysia simultaneously with Kuala Lumpur; the first being the launch of the BR-V, which helped propel sales contribution from East Malaysia to 10% in the first half of this year.
Currently, sales in Sabah and Sarawak stand at more than 3,500 units, accounting for 6.6% of the brand’s total sales in the first six months of 2017, with year-on-year growth of 48% compared to the corresponding period of last year.
The company said despite the high demand for the CR-V, it will ensure the waiting period for customers is maintained at the standard period of between one and two months, without compromise to quality, targeting to deliver to all customers who have already booked the CR-V by September.
The CR-V is priced from RM142,400, and its warranty is maintained at five years with unlimited mileage at 10,000km service intervals.
