The new Porsche Panamera Turbo which features a new eight-cylinder engine, which the company hails as one of the most powerful petrol engines of the model series, is now available for the first time in Malaysia.
Under the hood is a twin-turbo V8 engine featuring twin-scroll turbochargers and VarioCam Plus which generates 550hp at 5,750rpm-6,000rpm and 770Nm peak torque at 1,960rpm-4,500rpm that can take the car from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 306km/h, while with the Sport Chrono Package, its sprint time is 3.6 seconds.
The engine is Porsche’s first to be equipped with a new adaptive cylinder control system which makes the eight-cylinder engine a four-cylinder engine in part-load operation temporarily and imperceptible to the driver, resulting in improved fuel economy by about 30%.
Deactivation and reactivation of the cylinders are controlled by a two-stage sliding cam system, through which the intake and exhaust cam adjusters on the camshafts for cylinders two, three, five and eight are deactivated or reactivated as necessary.
Cylinder deactivation is operational over an engine speed range from 950rpm to 3,500rpm and up to a torque limit of 250Nm.
Besides improved performance, the new engine is also up to 9.5kg lighter than its predecessors, achieved by various design measures such as a high-strength aluminium cylinder crankcase.
Another highlight is iron coating of the cylinder linings in the cast aluminium block which significantly reduces internal friction, wear and oil consumption.
The Panamera Turbo was also driven on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, with a lap time of 7 minutes 38 seconds, making it the fastest luxury saloon on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
Retail base price for the new Panamera Turbo starts from RM1,550,000.00, comes with a four-year warranty and four-year free maintenance package which includes complimentary service, parts and labour.
The price includes all applicable duties, except registration fee, road tax and insurance.
