Goodyear Malaysia has partnered up with the Road Safety Department of Malaysia (JKJR) to organise a road safety workshop for Malaysian drivers.

The workshop is aimed at educating road users on the many potential risks that may occur while driving and how to handle road hazard situations with ease.

“This joint initiative together with JKJR is part of our continuous efforts to create a platform in increasing awareness on road safety.

“It is our commitment to offer quality products and services to ensure drivers are more prepared and equipped when they are on the road to face different weather or road conditions,” said Goodyear Malaysia managing director Ben Hoge.

It includes tips on how to handle challenges when facing unforeseen road hazards as well as how to ensure vehicle and tyres are in optimal condition through proper maintenance, as well as elaborates on areas a driver should consider when choosing their tyres, which are not only vital for road safety but can also lead to better fuel efficiency and longer lifespan.

Last year, the workshop reached 11 universities nationwide, with an average of 400 students per university and inspections carried out on students’ and staff members’ cars.

The most common factors of road accidents are road structure at 13.2% and vehicle conditions at 6.2%, coming after human error at 80.6%.

According to the Road Safety Plan of Malaysia 2014-2020, in 2013, road and tyre defects are some of the contributing factors to accidents.

With more vehicles on the road, fatalities have also been gradually increasing, from 6,877 fatalities in 2011 to 7,152 in 2016.

Meanwhile, Goodyear Malaysia introduced the Worry Free Assurance programme which covers irreparable damage caused by road hazards.

Irreparable damage includes punctures, cuts, bulges or impact during the course of normal driving on a maintained road, caused by road hazards such as potholes or sharp objects on the road.

The programme is available across a wide range of products and consumers can enjoy the benefit of road hazard assurance for six months with eligible claims of one-to-one tyre replacement which can be done at any Goodyear Autocare or Servitekar.

On top of that, consumers are also given the option of a 0% interest free instalment plan for tyres under the programme.
