Today saw the introduction of a new addition to ride-hailing services, PICKnGO, the latest option for taxi-booking services in Malaysia, which aims to register 10,000 licensed taxi drivers across Greater Kuala Lumpur.

The app was designed to provide passengers with a safe, reliable, convenient and consistent taxi ride with metered rates which can serve as a cost advantage against surge pricing charges offered by other ride hailing apps.

It was the brainchild of five major taxi companies, who unanimously agreed the app should not only benefit the drivers but should also address passenger concerns that have cropped up in the ride-hailing industry recently.

Among the main concerns raised include safety issues, which PICKnGO has addressed with the incorporation of an SOS button.

All vehicles have been inspected with insurance covered by the respective taxi companies, and the app only works with drivers who have been screened and are trained professional drivers with updated service skills.

Passengers can also access drivers’ profiles and follow them in the interactive map.

Besides online payment methods where passengers can register their credit, debit or MyDebit cards in-app, all drivers will also carry MPAY +Pro, a mobile POS terminal which allows passengers to pay offline with their cards.

Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri said it is a good time to introduce the app, as the government has recently legalised ride-hailing apps.

She also said she is happy to see traditional transportation providers taking an active step to go head on with their competition through the app.

“The launch of the app is very timely as the passing of the bill will give passengers a renewed trust and hope in the skills and services provided by our taxi drivers.

“PICKnGO’s entry into the ride-hailing industry will only serve to strengthen and improve the service for passengers,” she said.
