Chery was founded by the Government of China in 1997 as a state-owned corporation. The brand rolled out its first vehicle in 1999, two years after its factory started assembly and achieved the three-million production milestone in 2011. Focusing on passenger cars, minivans, and SUVs, Chery boasts an annual production capacity of 900,000 cars,engines and 450,000 transmissions.
Currently, the lineup consists of more than 20 models. In Malaysia, Chery vehicles are distributed by Chery Alado Automobile Sdn Bhd, which was formed in 2008 through the joint venture agreement between Chery Automobile Co. Ltd and local partners Alado Corporation and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT). Among the models offered in the country are the Chery A5, Eastar MPV 2.0L, Chery Tiggo SUV, A160 Sedan, QQ Compact and Transcom.
