Also colloquially referred to as Chevy, the brand manufactures almost every type of vehicle from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs and trucks, and on to range-topping sports cars like the Camaro, Corvette and SS. Chevrolet was founded in Michigan, Detroit in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and Swedish-born racer William Durant. Its first car – the Series C Classic Six – came in the same year the brand was founded.
Chevrolet vehicles can be found in almost every country except Ocenia, where the brand is represented by another GM subsidiary, Holden. The company is largely involved in the Asian market particularly in China, where it became Chevy’s third largest market in 2009, India and Japan. The brand is also present in Malaysia through a joint-venture between GM and DRB-HICOM in 2009 and Naza Quest from 2010 onwards.
