The marque was purchased together with Jaguar by Tata Motors in 2008 to form the current Jaguar Land Rover PLC (JLR). Its first vehicle, which was simply known as the original Land Rover, was introduced in 1948 at the Amsterdam Auto Show. It had permanent four-wheel drive, a canvas roof and optional doors. Research and development of its vehicles currently take place at the group’s engineering centres in Whitley and Gaydon, while production and assembly take place at the Halewood and Solihull plants.
