Opel is one of the oldest car manufacturers around, being founded in 1862. The company was established by Adam Opel, who started the business as a sewing machine manufacturer before moving on to bicycles in 1886. The company started making cars in 1899, when Opel bought a car manufacturing plant that belonged to Freidrich Lutzman. Nowadays, Opel sells its vehicles in various markets including South America, Africa, Asia and Europe, excluding the UK. In Australia and New Zealand, Opel cars are rebadged as Holden while in the UK, the cars are sold under the Vauxhall brand.
